MTG Salvation Article Archives: Monthly: January 2006You know the names, you've heard the stories, and you've seen the legends in action. The Izzet are mad scientists, the inventors of Ravnica. Today we have a very special installment of Cranial Insertion, because we have a very special guest in the studio: Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind!
Gandalf: Niv-Mizzet, it's a real honor to have you with us today. When I first looked at the Mirrodin spoiler, I saw a card called Tooth and Nail. So I was reading this old thread in a forum somewhere on the Magic Internet and saw this big old section where this guy talked all about his great idea of making the ultimate deck by putting all the best cards from Affinity and Goblins into one deck. "Ten-nil, ten-nil, ten-nil, ten-nil," sang my cat. Ravnica has so far been a quiet contender in the world of Vintage deck building. Here I am at the Guildpact prerelease, and I should be doing something useful, but instead I'm writing Cranial Insertion. Here's a short, under 10 minute, audio only podcast in which I discuss the Guildpact pre-release. The Guildpact prerelease and release events are nearly upon us, bringing change and turmoil to one of the most fun and interesting Limited environments we've seen in a while. The Magic Sock is a video blog. Magic used to be wonderful. At the beginning of this "Magic Theory From The Ground Up" series, our heroes Timmy and Jimmy started with the simplest form of Magic possible, and we analyzed it to build some basic game concepts. Only a single Survival deck made top 128 in Lille (out of how many total we don't know) but that one made it all the way to the Semifinals. Should auld acquaintance be forgot? Let’s hope not, because then you might not read this column anymore! I hope everyone had an awesome new year and didn’t resolve to do the impossible. Building a good deck is as important as being able to play the deck. The Magic Sock is a video blog. Magic, being the complex game that it is, has spawned many different and unique formats in which it can be played in. An article on how not to lose your balance when playing Magic. If you've been reading Cranial Insertion, you've probably seen references to the Comprehensive Rules. Last time on "Magic Theory From The Ground Up," we made the first foray into tempo. Rav/Rav/Rav is a draft format that is quite skill intensive, but it has been far less explored than previous triple-set draft formats in past years, due to its timing (CHK/CHK/CHK had a much longer season and had SIX GPs scheduled for it and a Pro Tour. Now that the Extended Season is officially closing down, I want to present you what I was doing with the time I spent with Magic: The Gathering other than drafting and reading Judgment. In my opinion, Ravnica has been one of the most innovative sets in the past couple years. Hey, look, it's a bright shiny new year! It's also a bright shiny new Cranial Insertion article, because we rule so much.
