History of MTGCast
Yup, Monday Night Magic News is joining MTGSalvation. What is the history of these rather strange fellows? First, Dom started MTGCast on 3/14/06. People started commenting and Dom decided to add a co-host, with Tom answering the call. The first episode with Tom, or “Pitimp,” was on 5/2/2006. The phenomenon of PTTT (Pro Tour Top Trumps) soon began, and Tom quickly fell behind. Gavin, or “Lesurgo” joined at the end of May to bring the expert opinion to the show, and started his own segment, “Decks with Les.” And MTGCast blossomed into a network with a wide variety of shows. Where will our heroes go next?
Oh, and remember kids, Dom is British with a capital UK.
[A brief aside for our loyal MTGS Readers: Dom and Tom of MTGCast are not regular writers bateleur and Dr. Tom, but are fortunate enough to share both their names and love of the great game of Magic. -Ed.]
No gold cards in 10th Edition? An article on magicthegathering.com has the comments of: “It shows off in a simple way ‘multicolor’. Since we do not include gold cards in the base set, it is nice to have a card that can show new players ‘gold’ cards without actually being gold.”
Coldsnap is available on the MTGO Beta right now! And this caused us to lose Gavin for a while mid-week to the wonders of free drafts.
Saturday School has been replaced by Magic Academy on magicthegathering.com, for the goal of teaching beginning players the more advanced topics and techniques of magic. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/academy/1
Fact Or Fiction
Possible artwork for Kamahl in the TS cycle was shown on the MTGSalvation forums. Fact or Fiction? Make the call after you see the artwork at: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=45114
Ask The Fountain of All Knowledge
Gavin fields a question from Gerald about the Boros Swiftblade, and a question from James Tucker about Dark Depths. Will Gavin successfully answer these hard-hitting questions?
MTGCast News
Opinions abound on the CS! TRB from the MTGCast forum wants to know some opinions on the new set and our favorite cards from the crew of the mighty ship, MTGCast. Tom likes Into the North, Dom is with Lightning Serpent, and Gavin is with Scrying Sheets.
Favorite Magic mechanics? The crew is stewing on this for the week and will answer in the next episode (*hint* Post your opinion in the forum). And we answer a listener question about how high to pick snow-covered lands in CS/CS/CS booster draft.
Pro-Tour Top Trumps! Gavin vs. Tom, and Dom gives a brief explanation about this odd little competitive outlet. You can also read more about Top Trumps on Wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Trumps
